What About Our Farmers?
The very people who raise our cattle, grow our fruits and vegetables, often overlooked by everyone, especially the media. Ottawa farmers feel like they are in trouble now thanks to liberal tax reforms that could see them lose their lands and income to feed their families.
Farming is not exactly the most profitable business, but the families who take care and make the best use of our land in Ontario are trying to feed us and help themselves economically. However, the government is trying to increase taxes on them, which means these families will struggle to even make ends meet in the long term.
There was a meeting last week for farmers in Ottawa to discuss the tax issues. This also includes being able to retire and pass on the land to their children. Some ministers believe these reforms want to eliminate a rule that allows farmers to give some of this income to family members who don’t work on the farm and have less taxes to pay, as well as these farmers investing outside of their farms to make extra income outside of their work.
The Thursday meeting was organized by Poilievre who wants to help the farmers by opposing these reforms. He thinks the government is trying to attack not just farmers, but also doctors and entrepreneurs.
It would be such a shame if the future of our farms were to be handed out to the corporations.
