  3. A Year In Review
2017blog

This is our last blog of 2017, and we thought we would use this opportunity to ‘review‘ the many topics we have covered in the last 12 months. There are two published blogs per month and under each month, a very brief summary of topics covered.

January

We began the year by discussing factors that could affect home prices in 2017 and also discussed questions to ask during an open house.

February

We discussed questions you would ask a mortgage broker upon the first meeting and brought up another important topic, which were the best ways to save money on energy bills during the winter.

March

Due to the mortgage rules not going down well with many in October of 2016, a small town in BC was asking Ottawa to loosen up some of those rules.

For people who were moving into a new home, some basic to dos were recommended.

April

We then went slightly off-topic to discuss some of the funnest things to do in Ottawa, giving our readers something different than real estate!

Two weeks later, we got back into real estate to debate the best option between getting a new home from the ground up (literally), or buying a current home.

May

We then had a guest blogger on board, a real estate broker himself, to talk about his journey in Ottawa. His passion for the industry and love for his job were inspiring!

Closer to the summer, we thought about endorsing the best festivals that were going to take place in the summer in Ottawa. This included the Bluesfest, Latin Sparks amongst other things.

June

Early in the summer, we discussed some of the factors involved in purchasing a home in Ottawa.

We then took another turn into the wild by discussing a general topic in our lives and well-being, managing deadlines with ease, especially when it comes to work.

July

Making mistakes can be easy for first-time homebuyers, so we thought to warn first timers about what they need to avoid when looking for their first home. This was followed up by a debate about buying a new home before selling a current one, or after. Advantages and disadvantages were discussed.

August

We then reached out to avid wannabe travelers about how much discovering the world can benefit your physical and mental health.

It was then appropriate to pay a tribute to builders who were responsible for building our wonderful capital city and talked about the journeys of several families who made the magic happen, and where their current next of kin are upto.

September

Early in the fall, we reached out to a resident in the Ottawa suburbs about his first homebuying experience through a Q&A

An unlikely topic was brought up a couple of weeks later, as it was a subject completely overlooked by the government when it comes to the farmers and their land. There was a bit of a scandal regarding taxes and land ownership, with some farmers suggesting this is all they have in Canada and many depend on them for their food.

October

Back to the city, the government is working hard on improving public transportation with the train that goes from one end of the city to the other. They are working to improve the service which will also increase the values of the homes around those train stops.

In October, we analyzed what had happened to the real estate market in September. We don’t usually do this in blogs as we provide a small update on our social media feeds, but there was alot of information to share this time around!

November

The forecast for the next two years was predicted two weeks later, with things set to calm slightly.

What’s it like buying a home in the rural areas? We discussed the pros and cons of investing in a home located in a village, such as a cottage.

December

We ended the fall blogs with a blog about modern and future technology impacting our homes, and how much they can also benefit our standard of living inside 4 walls.

There was then a long analysis of the real estate market within Ottawa and how the mortgage rules could potentially affect them.

This is how it ends for us in 2017! Are you ready for some interesting topics starting January?
