Making It Through To The Christmas Holidays

  3. Making It Through To The Christmas Holidays
Train your brain.

Now that the last long weekend of the year has passed us, we are a couple of months away from our favourite time of the year – CHRISTMAS!

This is not a blog about the festivities, but more about how you can navigate the busy time ahead to make sure you are still in shape, both mentally and physically, by the time Santa rings your doorbell!

Life is often stressful and tough, and we forget about ourselves and staying healthy. We have compiled some advice that may benefit you to get through until the end of 2018 and be ready for the New Year. It should not be so hard to set a bit of time aside, at least on weekends, to ‘take a deep breath’!

Here are some already known tips that you should really focus on:

  • Relax and allow yourself to do nothing (without cellphones!)
  • Meditate
  • Play with your pet
  • Cuddle your significant other
  • Do something that makes you smile
  • Create something artistic or play an instrument
  • Listen to music you love
  • Focus on your own needs and goals instead of comparing yourself to others
  • Take a break from all social media and technology
  • Allow yourself to feel your feelings instead of running from them or distracting yourself
  • Read a fictional book that lifts your spirits
  • Help someone and don’t expect anything in return
  • Practice positive affirmations (Example: You are enough just as you are right now in this moment.)
  • Write down a few things you appreciate yourself

As for the physical side of things:

  • Get some sleep!
  • Workout or go for a run/walk
  • Play your favourite sport
  • Go outside—get some sunlight on your skin
  • Try yoga?
  • Eat fresh, healthy foods (goes a long way)
  • Look in a mirror and smile

We genuinely hope you make time for this! Unplugging from technology can be difficult when we’re constantly connected, but switching off your phone for a few hours during the weekend and getting out of the house can be such a great way to start. Doing a little bit of all the above will make such a difference.
